What is Summer Staff?

Being on Summer Staff may make a person crazy, or exhausted . . . or both! One thing is for sure, it will be a time you will never forget.

You will live, laugh, cry and love with a team of people who you will grow to appreciate, and by the end of the summer you will find yourself saying, "8 weeks isn't enough."

Volunteer Summer Staff Jobs (1-8 week commitments)
All Staff - Training Dates: June 14-19, 2020
Dream Team
If you truly have a passion to serve Jesus behind the scenes then you should check out our Dream Team program! The Dream Team is the backbone of camp; from housekeeping and kitchen crew to setting up activities, media, worship and J-Crew, the Dream Team does a little bit of just about everything everything. This is a volunteer position for a one week minimum.
Cabin Leaders
Do you love kids? Do you thrive on spending time with people? Do you want to make a serious impact on the lives of 4-8 campers each week? Cabin Leading is a unique opportunity to share your life and love with a group of campers. This is a volunteer position for a one week minimum.
Day Camp Staff
We're looking for staff who would want to commit to four weeks over the summer. This person would assist the Day Camp Director and help maintain the fluidity of the every-other week Day Camp program. The Assistants work behind the scenes to ensure a successful day camp program. This is a volunteer position.​​
Summer Leadership Staff (all summer commitment)
Our leadership program offers support and leadership for our summer staff as well as plan and implement our summer program activities.
Lead Staff Training Dates: May 22-25, 2020
Dream Team Coach
(DTC) is primarily responsible for the welfare, care and supervision of our Dream Team staff. You'll come along side to coach them in their work ethic and job responsibilities. 12 week commitment. Paid position camp sub minimum wage.
Program Assistants
If you enjoy large group recreation, organizing events, and you can muster up a ton of energy, you may be good for the Program Assistant. This person will manage games, crafts and skits this summer, along with the staff it takes to make those things happen. There are 3 Program Assistant positions available this year. 12 week commitment. Paid position camp sub minimum wage.
Cabin Leader Coach
Cabin Leader Coach is responsible for the welfare and care of the Cabin Leaders per week. The primary focus is to aid and be attentive to the Cabin Leaders in being the best they can be for the needs of the campers. This person is also the Camp Medic. 12 week commitment. Paid position camp sub minimum wage. 

A Few Details

  • We are going to be ALL IN for Jesus this summer: creating a terrific team of staffies, cultivating amazing attitudes, developing crazy courage, building total trust, surrendering sweetly to Jesus and completing our commitment to build each other and our campers up. Our verse for this summer is Colossian 3:17 (NIV).
  • We are dividing our camps and staff opportunities into weeks of service, rather than just a particular camp. Of course if you want to commit to one particular camp, just let us know! And we are looking for helping hands for the end of the camp so that our reset for guest groups goes smoothly.
  • Please let your parents know that we would prefer that you be present at Camp Jonah for your time: no phone calls, emails or texts please, unless there is a family emergency. Snail mail will always be welcome.
  • Staffies in High School, or who graduate in 2020, are welcome to attend our High School Shape & Sharp Camp (July 26-31) for the low, low cost of $100. Must volunteer for two weeks or more for discount. We want you there!
  • Staff Training is June 14-19. Please plan to attend. You will also be completing some online training for child safety. A link will be emailed to you after we receive your application, so carefully consider the email address you provide. And you will also receive an electronic copy of the Staff Manual, which you will be expected to read through prior to your arrival.
  • Each of you will have a background check (no exceptions!) and will be interviewed. Therefore we must receive your application in a timely manner. Please do not wait until the week before you hope to arrive to send in your application. Here are your interview questions so that you will be prepared:
    • What strengths and experience do you have that make you a good candidate for Camp Jonah?
    • Describe your involvement with your local church (and be honest if it’s not much, we just want to know more about you).
    • What does your current walk with the Lord look like?
    • How do you think you will do living and working for long hours in a close, crowded, busy and active environment?
    • Define “service” and what it means “to serve.”
    • Give us an idea of how you would like to serve at Camp Jonah.
    • Give us an idea on your available dates.
    • On a scale of 1 to 5, how much do you want to work at Camp Jonah, even if you don’t get your ideal job assignment?

  • Before you start the application, you might want to gather some information so that you can complete it quickly: your Social Security Number and your Health Insurance Information, including who is responsible for paying medical bills.
